The Indian Club (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Indian_clubs), was a popular exercise tool during the nineteenth century. It was usually swung in various dynamic, often complicated routines making extra work for the muscles and improving physical coordination. They also proved useful weapons for the suffragette Bodyguard (and who thought Victorian ladies and gentleman were just a lot of ‘lah-dee-dah’ toffs?). Here, they feature in Dr. Who episode, The Crimson Horror (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Crimson_Horror). Picture courtesy of the Bartitsu Society (http://www.bartitsu.org/).
